GSA Makes BigFix Power Management Available to Federal Agencies via SmartBUY Program
EMERYVILLE, CA, Aug 12 (MARKET WIRE) --
BigFix and the US General Services Administration (GSA) have agreed to
expedite implementation of BigFix Power Management throughout the federal
government by offering the personal computer power conservation software
at an annual license fee of $3 per computer through the GSA SmartBUY
program. BigFix Power Management software enables IT organizations to
shut down computers during non-business hours, saving up to $40-50 per
year per computer in electric power costs. GSA and BigFix have negotiated
special pricing for the power management product against a background of
rising energy costs and the need for federal agencies to set an energy
conservation leadership example to all sectors of the economy.
Dave Robbins, President and CEO of BigFix, said: "BigFix Power Management
is the ultimate testament to both the extensibility of the BigFix platform
for solving a wide scope of problems and the real ROI that our customers
derive. We believe effective power conservation on the federal
government's millions of desktop and mobile/laptop computers can save
hundreds of millions of dollars in electricity costs, reduce demand for
energy, and reduce carbon emissions involved in its production, and we
are proud to support the federal government's efforts in this endeavor."
About BigFix Power Management
BigFix Power Management works by enabling IT managers to set and enforce
power conservation policies across computer installations ranging from
individual workgroups to entire agencies. The software offers unlimited
options to reduce power consumption of computers and their subsystems. In
a typical installation, IT managers can use BigFix Power Management to
shut down computers during non-working hours, or approximately 108 hours
per week for an organization operating during normal business hours.
Administrators can set custom policies on machines that need to stay on
for longer periods, or shut down and wake up computers to follow time
zones around the country or the world.
The software also includes Wake-On LAN features to enable computers to be
turned on in off-hours to perform maintenance and services, and features
to save all open files on a computer before shutting down to conserve
energy. The software also works on both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh
OS-X computers enabling centralized management of heterogeneous
environments. The BigFix Platform can also be used to assist agencies in
achieving compliance with Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC)
standards via the same visibility and control framework that supports
BigFix Power Management.
Since its commercial release in 2007, BigFix Power Management has become a
best seller at BigFix, with strong inroads in education, retail, and
healthcare markets. Potential cost savings have driven sales, with
customers able to cut power costs by up to $50 per computer per year --
paying for a BigFix Power Management license many times over. In addition,
customers may qualify for rebate programs extended by a growing number of
electric utility companies in the US and Canada. BigFix has also joined
the US Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR Service and Product
Provider Partner Program, the Alliance to Save Energy, and The Green Grid
industry associations. For more information on BigFix Power Management,
