Hospitals and medical centers honored for operational, clinical
and financial results using Picis high-acuity automation systems
WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Celebrating customer innovation and success, Picis today announced
the winners of its 2008 Customer Recognition Awards at the 8th Annual
Picis Exchange North American Customer Conference held in Palm Beach,
Fla. The awards recognize customers who are using Picis software to
improve their organization's operational, clinical and financial
results and further reinforce the conference's theme of "Results
Delivered." Picis honored the following hospitals and medical centers:

Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Va.

Award Category: Intersecting Clinical and Financial Results

   Using Picis ED PulseCheck(R), the 42-bed, 45,000-square-foot
emergency department (ED) stated that it achieved a 40-minute decrease
in average patient turnaround time and a significant reduction in
incomplete clinical information and patient charts in the last year
with electronic documentation and data sharing between the ED and lab,
radiology and other information systems. These improvements resulted
in a reported 28 percent increase in gross revenue for the
organization, in addition to a savings of $225,000 in labor costs.

   Fairview Health System, Minneapolis, Minn.

   Award Category: Comprehensive Business Results

Fairview Health Services used Picis OR Manager and SmarTrack(R) as
the replacement and enhancement system for its OR information and
tracking applications. The organization established a system-wide
standardized revenue process and review of charge capture for its
seven locations. Fairview reported that the standardization reduced
the number of disparate analytic reports by 97 percent and enabled the
organization to begin auditing, comparing and benchmarking data across
all its sites, leading to improved patient and surgeon satisfaction.

   University Medical Center, Tucson, Ariz.

   Award Category: Clinical Results

With Picis Critical Care Manager and Total Perioperative
Automation solutions, University Medical Center indicated that it
built more than 250 protocols to help clinicians meet care
documentation standards. After only 48 hours in use, the Picis systems
enabled more than 1,500 staff members to operate without handwritten
tracking white boards and use faster, more accurate OR processes that
have improved overall care standards.

Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, Mass.

   Award Category: Operational Results

Using Picis Perioperative Dashboard and performance improvement
initiatives, Lahey Clinic stated that it was able to immediately
identify and address first case delays, increasing its on-time starts
for surgery from a low 45 percent to 80-85 percent. Additionally, with
staffing and room availability information at their fingertips, the
managers could more effectively plan and adjust for needs throughout
the day and forecast future needs, thereby saving time, decreasing
employee overtime and boosting overall morale in the workplace.

   Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH

   Award Category: Financial Results

With Picis ED PulseCheck and the commitment of Catholic Medical
Center (CMC) and its ED management, CMC transitioned in October 2007
to automated documentation of charges in the emergency department.
Within one year, the system detailed an increase in ED revenue by 48
percent. The staff of 170 uses the system to improve their daily
clinical documentation and decrease lost billable charges. The
compliant documentation available in PulseCheck allows the ED charge
analyst to capture the maximum appropriate revenue for the services
provided, resulting in a continued increase in the center's monthly
revenue capture percentage.

Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colo.

   Award Category: Interoperability Results

This large urban teaching hospital implemented ED PulseCheck in
conjunction with Kaiser's existing Epic Systems Corporation ambulatory
electronic medical record (EMR) system to provide improved
communications between outpatient and inpatient care providers, and
unprecedented access to patient clinical information. By integrating
with the existing EMR system, the hospital reported that Picis ED
PulseCheck provided an immediate decrease in lost clinical information
during patient transfers between facilities and a decrease in
duplication and unnecessary testing and procedures, while showing an
immediate 16 percent increase in documentation of critical care cases
and charges.

"These hospitals and medical centers have shown significant
dedication to implementing the technologies that are critical to
improving the patient care process in the ED, OR and ICU," said Todd
Cozzens, CEO and vice chairman at Picis. "Given the increasing
pressures in today's healthcare climate to cut costs, increase
revenues, and remain compliant, we are very proud to be working with
each of these organizations to help them achieve clinical, operational
and financial results."

Picis ED PulseCheck, SmarTrack, OR Manager, Critical Care Manager
and Picis Perioperative Dashboard are part of the CareSuite(R) family
of high-acuity solutions.
