City of Berwyn Will Host 'Take Back the Night' Rallies and 26th Annual National Night Out Events BERWYN, Ill., July 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The City of Berwyn, Berwyn Police Department and Berwyn Fire Department invite the community to attend three "Take Back the Night" rallies in July and the 26th Annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. The rallies and National Night Out events are designed to: (a) heighten crime, gang and drug prevention awareness; (b) generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs; (c) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (d) send a message to criminals and gang members letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. In partnership with Target, Berwyn will sponsor two peaceful "Take Back the Night" rallies, consisting of a short march followed by a social gathering with the Mayor, police, and community members. These rallies will take place on July 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Celle located at 14th Street & Euclid Avenue and on July 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Proksa Park located at 31st Street & Wisconsin Avenue. Additionally, a senior citizens' rally with a "Name that Tune" theme will take place on July 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Cultural Center located at 6445 W. 27th Place. The Target Store in Broadview will provide hot dogs and refreshments for all three rallies. Each rally is critical in the effort to bring greater awareness to Berwyn's Neighborhood Watch Program and the National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 4. National Night Out is a key element in Berwyn's commitment to a year-round effort to enhance public safety and is shared by over thirty five million people in over ten thousand different communities across North America. A huge success, Berwyn produced the top ranking National Night Out event in the State of Illinois and the 21st in the nation last year. With an attendance reaching over 6,000 participants, the event benefits not only Berwyn residents but also the expected visitors from the greater Cook County area, bringing neighbors and communities together to reduce crime, drugs and violence. National Night Out will take place at Morton West High School at 2400 Home Avenue in Berwyn, IL. The 2009 event will have a showing of full force from the Police and Fire departments, as well as demonstrations from U.S. Marshalls, A.T.F., Cook County Department of Corrections, K-9 units, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Hostage Brigade Team. Featured exhibits include a Fire Safety demonstration with a "live burn" being extinguished, a Bike Rodeo, child fingerprinting, and an Illinois Crime Scene Investigation processing display. Additionally, participants can enjoy live music, fireworks, food, games, and the movie Grease being shown on the football field after dark.
