Everex Names ZaReason Authorized Reseller of $199 gPC
Linux advocate to offer and co-develop popular Open Source computers
FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Everex, a world leader in the
design and production of personal computers has partnered with ZaReason, a
FOSS builder (Free and Open-Source Software) based in Berkeley, California to
distribute and support the Everex line of Open Source computing devices.
The Everex gPC TC2502, the first such Everex computer to be based solely
on Open Source, has been selling in Wal-Mart stores and Walmart.com and
includes popular FOSS applications from Google, Mozilla, Skype and
OpenOffice.org. It's critically acclaimed gOS operating system also features
a simple and intuitive graphical user interface and comes with a lifetime of
free updates and revisions.
Having sold out of its initial gPC allocation, Everex has enlisted
resellers such as ZaReason to help satisfy the high demands of the holiday
season.
"Although some customers may not recognize their name, we specifically
chose ZaReason because of their steadfast commitment to Open Source and the
Linux community," states John Lin, general manager of Everex.
ZaReason is staffed almost entirely by volunteers and caters to the Linux
enthusiast, offering branded desktop and notebook computers from $199 to
$1499. Unlike other gPC resellers, the Berkeley, California-based
organization also provides upgrade services, giving new owners the option of
adding system memory or purchasing a computer monitor with their PC.
"Most of the people who buy systems from us want some type of
customization," states ZaReason CEO, Cathy Malmrose. "Our entire R&D
department is driven by people asking for different components or unique
configurations. We anticipate this system will be purchased by Linux users
for their family and friends over the holidays."
Engineers from ZaReason have also been enlisted to provide Open Source
software development assistance on many future Everex computing devices,
including their much anticipated 7" Ultra-Mobile PC, codenamed "CloudBook".
An undisclosed, major US reseller has committed to launching the VIA-powered
product in January, 2008.
