The Environmental Attorneys at The Simon Law Firm Comment on the Bourne Landfill
Massachusetts village of Bourne plagued by hydrogen sulfide odors emanating from landfill ST. LOUIS--(Business Wire)-- Hydrogen sulfide odors emanating from a landfill located in the Cape Cod, MA village of Bourne have prevented homeowners from the use and enjoyment of their property. Caused by decomposing construction debris dumped into the landfill, hydrogen sulfide produces a rotten-egg smell. "When a landfill releases hydrogen sulfide gas, residents must close their windows and avoid enjoying their yards in an effort to escape the stench," notes Todd Hageman, an attorney with The Simon Law Firm. "At low levels, hydrogen sulfide is a nuisance. At high levels, it is linked to health complications such as eye and skin irritation, headaches, delirium and respiratory problems." The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection levied a $7,200 fine for noxious odors released in the fall of 2008. However, a recent press release from the town administrator indicates that the stench continues to pose a problem. The Simon Law Firm is a St. Louis-based firm that represents people who have lost the use and enjoyment of their property or been hurt by environmental and landfill hazards. The firm represents residents across the country plagued by hydrogen sulfide landfill odors.
