EDS Awarded $76 Million Contract to Modernize Applications for California DMV
HERNDON, Va., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS has been awarded a $76
million, six-year contract to assist in modernizing applications technology
for the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The Information
Technology Modernization (ITM) project will update the DMV's legacy software
application technology to more current application and database structures.
The contract was awarded to EDS at the end of the fourth quarter of 2007.
The ITM project, assisted by EDS, will modernize the DMV's technical
infrastructure which services the state's drivers license, occupational
license and vehicle registration processes. The project will improve the
state's ability to provide DMV services essential to California citizens'
public safety, revenue collection and economy.
The project will facilitate the department's transition from custom
applications to a proven industry-standard, commercially-available
applications infrastructure. The modernized infrastructure will give the
citizens of California, state DMV employees and DMV field office technicians
greater access to information and will improve the DMV's ability to rapidly
respond to the need for future changes to the system.
"The California DMV has worked diligently to create a strong modernization
strategy," said Susan Arthur, head of EDS state and local government. "We are
pleased that they have chosen EDS as a partner to support them as they
implement this strategy."
EDS will employ existing workers in the Sacramento area and create
additional jobs to perform work under the contract.
The EDS solution will leverage the capabilities and experience of Saber
Software Inc., a leading provider of software and services to U.S. state
governments. Last month, EDS purchased an approximate 93 percent equity
interest in Saber, one of the world's fastest-growing providers of software
products and services that enable state and local governments to better serve
citizens.
The EDS team also includes several small and disabled veteran-owned
businesses, including several based in California. Small business team members
include Computer Deductions Inc., NexLevel Information Technology Inc., and
SumRall Solutions LLC. Disabled veteran-owned business team members are KT
Consulting Inc., and Trinity Government Systems Inc. Others companies working
with EDS on the contract are Datatrend Technologies Inc., Supreme Soft Inc.,
and Trinity Millennium Group Inc.
"We look forward to working with our team to help the California DMV
effectively and securely deliver services to the state's citizens," said
Dennis Stolkey, vice president and general manager, EDS U.S. Government and
Public Sector.
