Lowell High School Graduate Victoria Chu to Attend UC Berkeley in Fall 2009
SAN FRANCISCO--(Business Wire)--
Stone & Youngberg, a leading financial services firm and the nation`s top
underwriter of California municipal bonds over the past five years,1 today
announced that Victoria Chu has been awarded the Benjamin J. Baum education
scholarship by the San Francisco School Alliance. Established in 2004, the
scholarship recognizes the achievements of San Francisco public school graduates
going on to attend the University of California at Berkeley.

Ms. Chu, a Lowell High School graduate, will attend the University of California
at Berkeley Haas School of Business in the fall of 2009. After undergraduate
study, she aspires to attend law school and then become a corporate attorney.
Ms. Chu is an accomplished student, as well as a talented musician who plays
violin, viola, piano and guitar. In 9th grade Ms. Chu received a viola
scholarship from the Community Music Center in San Francisco. She has been the
principal violist in the Lowell Symphony Orchestra for the past two years, and
was recently awarded the Orchestra Award for her achievements. Ms. Chu also
plays for the Lowell String Quartet, a charitable group that raises money for
the school through its concerts. She was a member of the National Forensics
League, a speech and debate society. In 10th grade she formed a pre-law club
where local area lawyers were invited to visit Lowell High School students to
share their experiences of earning a law degree and taking the bar exam.

"As an independent San Francisco firm since 1931, Stone & Youngberg has always
invested in the community," said Ken Williams, president and CEO of Stone &
Youngberg. "There`s no better investment than to assist local students in
receiving a quality education."

Stone & Youngberg established the scholarship in 2004 to recognize the important
contributions of former colleague Ben Baum, who began his career in the firm`s
mailroom in 1932 and ultimately led the firm as managing partner for thirty-five
years. Baum, who passed away at the age of ninety-one in 2003, was a
third-generation San Franciscan who graduated from Lowell High School and
attended the University of California at Berkeley.

Benjamin J. Baum Scholarship recipients are awarded $1,000 for each year of
collegiate study. The scholarship is distributed through the San Francisco
School Alliance, an independent non-profit organization committed to ensuring
that every San Francisco public school student receives a world-class education.
