Chamber Leads the Way for the UAE and GCC Countries to Join the System by
Organising a Two-Day Seminar
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates--(Business Wire)--
As a long-time advocate of the ATA Carnet in the Gulf region, the Dubai Chamber
of Commerce & Industry led the way for the UAE and the GCC countries to join the
system by organizing a two-day seminar and workshop entitled, "Why Should the
Middle East Have International Trade Facilitations via ATA Carnet System" in
association with the International Chamber of Commerce`s World Chambers
Federation at its headquarters in Dubai on the 2nd & 3rd of November 2009.

The seminar, inaugurated by HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai
Chamber, is a Dubai Chamber initiative in raising awareness about the
introduction and procedures of the ATA Carnet system for the first time in the
region.

The seminar was attended by HE Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Acting Director General,
Federal Customs Authority (UAE), Lee Ju Song, ICC Asia Director, and senior
Customs and Chamber officials from the Middle East and the GCC countries, and a
host of private and public sector representatives.

HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, maintained that over the
years, Dubai Chamber has not only been tirelessly working on laying the
foundation for the introduction of the ATA Carnet in the UAE but has been
pursuing its implementation in the whole region backed by the ICC`s World
Chambers Federation in its vision to support the GCC`s initiatives aimed at
enhancing the attractiveness of its member countries as destinations for
business, sports, cultural and art events, trade fairs and exhibitions.

Added Lee Ju Song, ICC Asia Director, "Dubai Chamber is one of ICC`s most active
members and greatly contributes to spread ICC`s trade facilitation work in the
region. This meeting will convince the stakeholders concerned of the urgency to
internationalise trade and Customs practices as the region intensifies its
integration through GCC to emerge as destinations for business, sports, cultural
and art events, trade fairs and exhibitions."
