SAN FRANCISCO, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- BCCI Construction has announced the
completion of Phase Two in the ongoing $20 million renovation of San
Francisco's South Beach Park and Harbor complex. Phase Two construction was
focused on the Pier 40 portion of the site.

Once work is finished on the 100-year-old Pier, home to the first concrete
warehouse building in the city, the public will have more suitable access to a
renovated Pier that includes an expanded park, a new waterfront promenade and
adjacent pedestrian areas.

Phase Two, comprising about $5 million of work, began in July 2008 and
included essentially three components:
-- First, the underwater structure of the Pier was repaired. The most
damaged piles received fiberglass jackets, with high-strength grout
injected between the pile and the jacket.
-- Second, the walkway on the south side of the Pier was extended for
        public access.

-- Third, the Pier building, or shed, received a new facade. The original
front of the building was destroyed by fire in the 1930s and never
replaced. With the renovation work, the shed was fitted with sliding
doors -- at 20 feet square and 5,000 pounds per door -- to provide
both
improved Pier security and an industrial aesthetic.

John McKernan, Division Vice President of Building Restoration and Structures
for BCCI, said historic renovation and seismic upgrade is something for which
BCCI is uniquely suited, even in an over-water environment.

"We have enjoyed working with the Agency and Port and collaborating with them
on this historic renovation and seismic and structural upgrade of this Pier,"
McKernan said.

The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency awarded BCCI this phase of work. The
company worked closely with the architectural firm Tom Eliot Fisch and The
Redevelopment Agency to achieve the project goals and staying within the
budget.

The final phase of the Pier 40 work probably won't begin until at least 2015,
according to the Redevelopment Agency.
