Abt Associates Names Kathleen L. Flanagan as President and CEO
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates announced that Kathleen L. Flanagan has been named President and CEO, succeeding Wendell J. Knox who had announced his retirement in June of last year. Knox, who has served as President and CEO for the last 17 years, will continue to serve on the company's Board of Directors. Flanagan will assume her new position on October 1, 2009. In this capacity she is responsible for leading the company's entire domestic line of business encompassing a portfolio of health, environment, and social and economic policy projects. This line of business accounts for over $100 million in annual revenue and include approximately 300 staff. "An extensive search process was completed by the Board of Directors which considered many candidates from a wide variety of fields. I am delighted that Kathleen was chosen unanimously by the Board. Flanagan joined the company in 1983 as a policy analyst in the Health Area and since that time has worked across the broad range of markets and policy areas that reflect the company's business today. In 1989 she became Managing Vice President of the company's Labor Economics Research Area, overseeing research on workforce development and income security programs. In the mid-1990's Flanagan and her education colleagues launched an international workforce and education practice winning projects from clients including USAID, The World Bank and the U.S. Department of Labor. In 1998, she launched the company's Housing and Community Revitalization practice and built a team of more than 75 researchers and technical assistance staff working on affordable housing and community development policies at the federal, state and local levels. Since 2001, she has been a member of the company's senior executive team, playing a prominent role in shaping the company's growth strategy and attracting top talent to the company.
