Millan Receives LEED(R) Accredited Professional Certification
NEW ORLEANS, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Jones Walker is pleased to announce that
Stanley A. Millan, S.J.D., has received the U.S. Green Building Council
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED(R)
AP) certification. Several thousand architects and building professionals are
LEED-accredited, yet few attorneys have earned this credential; Dr. Millan is
one of the few LEED AP-credentialed attorneys in Louisiana.
"In addition to providing clients with traditional legal advice, my LEED AP
certification allows me to help clients navigate the LEED certification
requirements for environmentally-conscious projects," said Dr. Millan. He
added, "As a LEED AP attorney, I assist building owners with contracts that
include the necessary provisions needed for a construction or design project
to comply with LEED certification requirements." He can also further "green"
law with his students.
William H. Hines, Jones Walker's Managing Partner, congratulated Dr. Millan on
his achievement: "There are only a handful of attorneys in Louisiana--and very
few along the Gulf Coast--who have met the rigorous requirements to receive
the LEED AP certification. This is a testament to Stan's commitment to his
practice and to our profession."
Dr. Millan's practice includes air, water, and waste regulation, including
compliance counseling and defense before the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA), the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), and
courts. His practice also includes endangered species and wetland regulation,
dealing with the EPA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the LDEQ, the
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR), and the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service. His government contracts work covers small business issues,
bid protests, contract dispute claims, and negotiations of equitable
adjustments.
Dr. Millan also teaches environmental law and government contracts law at both
Tulane University Law School and Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.
LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the
knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process.
LEED Accredited Professionals have demonstrated a thorough understanding of
green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System. Since the
Professional Accreditation program was launched by the U.S. Green Building
Council in 2001, more than 75,000 people have earned the credential, but few
of them are attorneys.
