Famous Dave's Founder, Michigan-Area Food Network Challenge Champ to Help
Northwood University Honor First African-American Professor

MIDLAND, Mich., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- "Famous Dave" Anderson, founder and
chairman emeritus, Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que, and Douglas St. Souver, two-time
Food Network Fantasy Carving Challenge Champion, will be on hand to celebrate
the 33rd Annual Stafford Memorial Dinner honoring William Stafford, the first
African-American professor at Northwood University and founder of the Hotel,
Restaurant & Resort Management program. The event will take place Saturday,
January 12, 2008 at Sullivan's Black Forest in Frankenmuth, MI.
Anderson, who also serves as assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of
the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, is the keynote speaker for the event.
Throughout the evening St. Souver will be carving elaborate fruit creations
and showing off several of his award-winning designs.
Hosted by Northwood University students, the Stafford Dinner honors the
late professor William Stafford. In 1976, a year after his passing, his
former students wanted to recognize Stafford for the passion he had instilled
in them. His legacy, now known as the annual Stafford Memorial Dinner,
provides students with scholarship opportunities while gaining real-world
experience and networking with industry professionals.
The evening takes a full school year to plan and is implemented solely by
Northwood students. Event advisors include William E. Spaulding, chair of the
Hotel, Restaurant & Resort Management program at Northwood University, and
Karla Spaeth, the advisor for the Northwood University Hospitality Enterprises
(NUHE) club.
The scholarship fundraiser will begin with an opening reception at 5:30
p.m., followed by dinner, 7-9 p.m. A silent auction will be held, 5:30-8 p.m.
Event proceeds benefit winners of the Stafford Memorial Dinner Scholarship.
