Detroit People Mover Offers Easy Transfer, Free Tokens for New Riders at the Rosa Parks Transit Center DETROIT, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate the new DDOT Rosa Parks Transit Center (RPTC) and its closeness to two Detroit People Mover stations, the Detroit Transportation Corporation (DTC) will offer a free token to the first 5,000 patrons who transfer from RPTC to the People Mover. Representatives from the People Mover will be on hand at RPTC to answer questions and provide information during the grand opening on Tuesday, July 14, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Transfer points from the RPTC to the People Mover are steps away at both Michigan and Times Square stations. Free tokens may be obtained only at the Transit Center, while supplies last. "The Detroit Transportation Corporation is pleased that the Rosa Parks Transit Center has opened," said Barbara Hansen, DTC General Manager. "The center provides a respite for our transit riders, enhances our ability to coordinate transportation services to the residents of southeastern Michigan, and it is one more step in realizing a comprehensive regional transit system." Also, to encourage patrons to further explore downtown on the People Mover, the system will offer a special promotion for its monthly pass at $10, a 50 percent discount off the regular price of $20. Great for commuting, attending events on riverfront or Campus Martius, and frequenting other downtown hotspots, the pass provides unlimited rides on the People Mover. The pass will be available at the RPTC, online at www.thepeoplemover.com/shop or at the DPM downtown sales office at 1420 Washington Boulevard, Third Floor, during normal business hours. People Mover fare is 50 cents each way, and children ages five and under ride free. Stations are well-lit and vehicles are climate-controlled. Trains also feature special wheelchair and priority disabled seating areas. Handicapped access is currently available at all stations except Grand Circus Park, which has stairway access only. Passengers needing an elevator or escalator closest to Grand Circus should board at either the Broadway or Times Square Stations. For more information, call 313-224-2160.
