Incubus Fans Make a Statement by Raising $170,000 for the Band's Make Yourself Foundation This Summer
LOS ANGELES, CA, Oct 16 (MARKET WIRE) --
Recent recipients of The Surfrider Foundation's "Keeper Of The Coast
Award," (alongside Pearl Jam and other notables) Incubus, via their
charitable concern, the Make Yourself Foundation (MYF), recently donated
$30,000 to organizations that are assisting the rescue efforts for the
national disasters in Samoa, Indonesia and the Philippines. The
companies, Mercy Corp (Indonesia), UNICEF (Samoa), and GlobalGiving
Foundation (Philippines) each received $10,000.
"During the past couple weeks or so, we've been following the devastating
loss of life in Samoa, Indonesia and the Philippines. We felt compelled to
make donations to organizations that are assisting the rescue efforts for
all three of these natural disasters. This money was raised by Incubus
fans, and we feel like making a donation to these regions is something you
would want. Having recently spent time in the Philippines, it breaks our
hearts to see the wreckage and loss of life," says MYF head Jake Versluis.
Via the Make Yourself Foundation, Incubus has raised over one million
dollars for organizations doing charitable and philanthropic work.
Charities and causes that have benefited include the aforementioned
Surfrider Foundation, Rock The Earth, Nebraska State Recycling, Amnesty
International, Red Cross, Circle City Animal Allies, Cartridges for Kids,
Bently BioDiesel, Sierra Club, Clean Air Conservancy, StopWaste.org, Ocean
Conservancy, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and close to 40+ additional
organizations.
"None of this of course would have happened without the generosity of the
fans," says front man Brandon Boyd, adding, "this summer Incubus fans not
only came to our shows, but came early to our meet n' greets prior to the
show." And those fans proved once again that they are a compassionate and
charitable lot, indicates Versluis, stating, "During this summer's
'Monuments & Melodies Tour,' the Make Yourself Foundation held VIP package
programs on all 31 dates with 100% of the monies benefiting the
foundation. The fans ultimately raised a phenomenal $170,000 this
summer!"
The latest news is perhaps the most exciting according to Incubus. A
versatile entity, MYF does not limit funds to just one organization, but
toward many environmental charities. In a continued effort to support the
many benefactors, the band has announced a Post-Tour online auction that
will include several items from the tour (e.g. Mike Einziger's PIPA played
during the past tour) and some additional personal effects (e.g. Brandon
Boyd's vintage Vespa). More information will become available in the
coming weeks.
