RFID Solutions Get Faster, Better, and Cheaper, as Users Gain Business Benefits
Beyond Mandate Compliance
100% of Best-in-Class RFID Users Reduce Process Failures by up to 20% and
Improve Throughput by up to 10%, While Reducing Labor Costs
BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - January 09, 2008) - Companies using radio frequency
identification (RFID) technologies are increasingly enjoying new and significant
business benefits, according to research reported in "Winning RFID Strategies
for 2008," a newly published report by Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks company
(NYSE: HHS).
The new Guide highlights results from multiple Aberdeen Group survey-based
Benchmark Studies of RFID use in manufacturing, retail, and other industries.
The Guide offers specific, vendor-neutral, business-centric analysis and
recommendations, to help all types and sizes of enterprises to take maximum
advantage of RFID, within and beyond corporate supply chains.
"Among 'Best-in-Class' companies using RFID identified by Aberdeen Group
research, 100% reduced process failure incidents by at least 20%, and improved
process throughput by at least 10%. These positive results set the stage for
broader RFID deployments in 2008 and beyond," said Michael Dortch, Senior
Analyst at Aberdeen Group. "In addition, RFID solutions are falling in price
while gaining functionality and becoming easier to integrate with IT
infrastructures and key business applications. These developments are making it
faster, easier, and less expensive to translate RFID deployments into real
business benefits."
As enterprises pursue and achieve business benefits from RFID deployments, their
RFID solutions, technologies, and vendor selection strategies are evolving in
ways that create more opportunities for success. A critical factor in such
success is a greater focus on business process visibility, improvement, and
optimization.
More than a third of manufacturers surveyed by Aberdeen Group (34%) cited asset
tracking as the primary objective of their RFID initiatives, with production
efficiency (24%) and supply chain visibility (19%) the next two objectives cited
most often. Among retailers surveyed, more than two-thirds (68%) cited improving
process visibility as a top driver of RFID adoption, with almost as many (64%)
citing asset tracking. These and other findings featured in the RFID Solution
Selection Guide demonstrate that RFID is moving rapidly beyond traditional
"slap-and-ship" and "track-and-trace" applications.
Aberdeen Group's "Winning RFID Strategies for 2008" also includes RFID readiness
assessment criteria, and discussion of RFID's impacts on business and IT
infrastructures and organizations. A complimentary copy of this Guide is made
