The American Institute of Architects, California Council Draws 60 Architects to its Annual Legislative Day at the Capitol

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
More than sixty architects from around the state joined in
Sacramento April 2, 2008, to advocate the Legislature regarding
important issues facing California and the architectural profession.
Fifteen of the 21 California American Institute of Architecture (AIA)
chapters were represented. Meetings were held with more than 50
individual legislators and their architect constituents.

Many prominent issues were discussed. Legislators were asked to
join The American Institute of Architecture, California Council,
(AIACC) in supporting the 2030 Challenge, a challenge to have new
buildings carbon neutral in their energy use by the year 2030.
Legislators were also asked to oppose SB 1312, legislation to enact an
interior design practice act, and were informed by the architects how
a sales tax on architectural services would increase the cost of
design services and encourage the purchase of architectural services
from out-of-state firms.

The AIACC President, Jeff Gill, AIA, attended several meetings
with Legislators and stated, "This is an important day, not only for
architects, but for all Californians because of the many building
issues that affect their lives. This is just one way architects make a
difference in California communities."

The AIACC advocacy efforts affect the laws, regulations, and
building of California communities throughout the state.

The AIACC represents the interests of more than 10,000 architects
and allied professionals in California. Founded in 1944, The AIACC's
mission supports architects in their endeavor to improve the quality
of life for all Californians by creating more livable communities,
sustainable designs and quality work environments. Today The AIACC is
the largest component of the national AIA organization. For more
