WASHINGTON--(Business Wire)--
In response to the federal government`s increasing focus on health care fraud
and promised changes in enforcement by the Obama administration, Mintz, Levin,
Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. has expanded its health care fraud and
abuse practice by forming the Health Care Enforcement Defense Practice Group.
The group is made up of nearly a dozen attorneys from the firm`s health law and
white collar defense practices with expertise in government investigations,
corporate, HIPPA and privacy compliance and defending anti-kickback, false
claims and whistle-blower allegations.

The new practice group consists of Mintz Levin attorneys in the firm`s
Washington, New York and Boston offices. Many of these attorneys have served in
governmental agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) and the Department of Justice as well as with offices of state Attorneys
General.

"As the federal and various state governments make it clear that aggressive
investigative and enforcement activities will not only continue but will
escalate, this is an ideal time to expand the capabilities we have in both
compliance and defense work with the formation of the Health Care Enforcement
Defense Practice Group," said Hope Foster, the group`s Chair and Member of the
Health Law section.

The group is comprised of the following members: Hope Foster, Peter Chavkin,
Thomas Crane, William Davis, Robert Delahunt, Michael Gardener, Ellen Janos,
Karen Lovitch, John Markey, Tracy Miner and Bridget Rohde.

combining its regulatory knowledge with its investigative and litigation
expertise. Mintz Levin has experience defending allegations of cost report,
Stark and kickback violations, as well as assertions of upcoding, billing for
services not rendered or not medically necessary, criminal patient abuse
