Templeton Global Income Fund ("GIM") Announces Dividend and Municipal Securities Investment Policy
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Jul 06 (MARKET WIRE) --
Templeton Global Income Fund (NYSE: GIM) today announced its regular
monthly dividend from net investment income of $0.042 per share, payable
on July 31, 2009 to shareholders of record on July 16, 2009 (Ex-Dividend
Date: July 14, 2009).
It was also announced that the Fund may invest up to 10% of its assets in
municipal securities when the investment manager believes it is advisable
to do so. Municipal securities are issued by state and local governments,
their agencies and authorities, as well as by the District of Columbia and
U.S. territories and possessions, to borrow money for various public or
private projects. The issuer pays a fixed, floating or variable rate of
interest, and must repay the amount borrowed (the "principal") at
maturity. Municipal securities generally pay interest free from federal
income tax.
The Fund's primary objective of high current income and its secondary
objective of capital appreciation, as well as its other investment
policies, restrictions and tax diversification requirements remain the
same.
Investing in municipal securities involves risks, such as the issuer's
inability to make interest payments and repay principal. Changes in an
issuer's financial strength or in a security's credit rating may affect a
security's value and, thus, impact Fund performance. In addition, these
securities can be impacted by events in the states and territories that
issue them, which may include economic or political policy changes, tax
base erosion, state constitutional limits on tax increases, budget
deficits and other financial difficulties, and changes in the credit
ratings assigned to the state's municipal issuers.
The Fund's investment manager is a wholly owned subsidiary of Franklin
Resources, Inc. (NYSE: BEN), a global investment management organization
operating as Franklin Templeton Investments. Franklin Templeton
Investments provides global and domestic investment management solutions
managed by its Franklin, Templeton, Mutual Series, Fiduciary Trust, Darby
and Bissett investment teams. The San Mateo, CA-based company has more
than 60 years of investment experience and over $448 billion in assets
under management as of May 31, 2009. For more information, please call
