Green Skies Launches to Unite North America for Better Aviation Environmental Responsibility
New Conference to Debut May 21-23, 2008 WASHINGTON--(Business Wire)--Green Skies Inc. debuted today as a U.S. aviation consulting and conference management firm aimed at uniting the aviation industry toward better and more comprehensive environmental responsibility, the company said. Green Skies will hold the largest aviation environmental event in North America during May 21-23, 2008 at the Hyatt Grand Cypress in Orlando, Florida. "Green Skies is a conference and a movement," said Green Skies CEO Michael Miller, a veteran aviation journalist and consultant. "Our conference will showcase the best the industry has to offer, provide benchmarks for all areas of aviation, and offer a single meeting place to interact with like-minded companies." The Green Skies event is open to be booked at GreenSkies.com. Miller, the former co-founder of The Velocity Group and former editor of Aviation Daily and other aviation publications, said there are many green initiatives underway in North America, but that the continent as a whole is behind Europe on environmental leadership. "North America is behind, and the industry can seize the moment and take a unified approach, or wait for others to enact rules that penalize or enact new tax burdens on our businesses," Miller said. "Aviation needs a unified approach to green issues, and the major organizations should be working together closely." "This is a global issue that also requires a local focus. Each company should have undertaken an environmental audit and should have adopted a new set of principals that take green issues into account." Green Skies has put forward the Green Skies Pledge (available at GreenSkies.com) to encourage companies to adopt more extensive environmental guidelines. "In addition, the aviation industry should understand that there is money, fuel and the environment to be saved by adopting greener principals, and money to be made by introducing new technologies and products," he said. Miller cited several aviation companies in North America who have made significant progress on green issues, including Continental Airlines, Chicago O'Hare Airport, San Diego International Airport and others. "Those undertaking green efforts are the exception, however," he said. "In Europe, it is an accepted approach to factor the environment in every major business decision. We're not there yet." Green Skies Inc. is an aviation consulting and conference management company based in Maitland, Florida, and founded by Michael Miller, who has managed several aviation events and has been cited often as an aviation expert by CNN, CNBC, ABC, CBS and BBC.
