WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), along with several leading national Hispanic organizations, co-hosted the Friends of Justice Sonia Sotomayor reception in October to honor the newly-appointed Supreme Court Justice. The USHCC was pleased to celebrate the nation's first Hispanic and only its third female justice at one of only two confirmation celebration events held. "Justice Sotomayor represents the very best that America has to offer. She's the manifestation of grace, dedication, integrity and intellect" said Elizabeth Vasquez Gallagher, USHCC Vice Chair and Chair of Latina Services. "It is precisely with the achievements of Justice Sotomayor in mind, that our commitment to the Latina Leadership Initiative remains as relevant as ever" emphasized Gallagher. "She provides a role model in the best possible sense of the term for young Hispanic women." The USHCC has recently launched the Latina Leadership Initiative - a comprehensive program that provides current and aspiring Latina business owners with access to the tools, resources and information necessary to establish themselves in a competitive business environment. Over the last decade, the number of Latina-owned businesses increased by at least 64%. Chairman David C. Lizarraga in his toast to Sotomayor said: "You are the fulfillment of the hopes and dreams of so many who have come before us, and today Americans of every color and background can draw inspiration from your uniquely American story."
