Independence Project Teams With Critical Non-Profit Organizations in Support of America's Communities Thousands expected to celebrate at Major Events in Washington, DC on November 7th WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today the Lightfoot Endowment Foundation announced that several non-profit partners have joined the Independence Project as a means to deliver essential services to communities in need. These newly announced partners will receive funds raised by the Independence Project in order to service said communities. The Independence Project of 2009 is a fundraising campaign with two signature events that are at the heart of this project's mission and objectives. Non-profit organizations chosen to benefit from the Independence Project include: The DC National Guard's Youth Programs, The Michael Baisden Foundation, The National Military Family Association, Rebuilding Together, Inc., and Bob Woodruff Foundation (ReMind.org). "The Independence Project started as a vision to improve the human condition by supporting independent communities. That vision is now well on its way to creating meaningful impact as we work in partnership with this select group of smart and effective non-profit organizations," said Porsha Jones, Executive Director of the Lightfoot Endowment Foundation. The two signature events are: The Stars and Stripes Gala and Independence Project Family Day. The Stars and Stripes Gala, an annual black-tie event to be held on November 7, 2009, is an opportunity for sponsors, high-profile individuals and citizens to thank 2500 veterans by hosting a night of free entertainment for the soldiers. The exclusive celebration will include: event headliner Wyclef Jean, additional celebrity appearances, music, dancing, and an open bar and buffet. Major General Errol R. Schwartz, Commanding General, Joint Force Headquarters of the DC National Guard, is Honorary Chair of the gala. A portion of the proceeds from the gala will fund the Independence Project Family Day Event, providing free activities to our nation's military, first responders, homeland security, and their families at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC on November 7, 2009. Sean Kingston is the main entertainment for this event. The remaining proceeds will be donated to the non-profits and charities designated for Independence Project: DC National Guard's Youth Programs, The Michael Baisden Foundation, The National Military Family Association, Rebuilding Together, Inc., and Bob Woodruff Foundation (ReMind.org).
