Companies Demand IT GRC Solutions to Develop Business Continuity Plans for the
Fall Flu Season
With the imminent new wave of Influenza A (H1N1) threatening to increase the
number of contaminations in the United States, organizations are investing in
IT GRC solutions in order to better manage risk and crisis management

MONTCLAIR, N.J., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- A second wave of Swine Flu is
certain to hit the United States as the Fall Flu Season approaches. Even if
Influenza A proves no more deadly than regular winter flu, (which kills 36,000
Americans a year), it is expected that teenagers and young adults will be
disproportionately hit, according to the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention. Both types could very well spread at the same time this fall.
Influenza A has impacted the worldwide economy -- in the United States
alone, the swine flu outbreak hit all 50 states earlier this spring. The
potential pandemic impact in the Fall Season is worrying not only US private
and public entities, but the population itself is increasingly becoming
concerned about the health situation in the country. Organizations need,
therefore, to react quickly and develop business continuity plans to warn and
protect their workers of the possible new wave of contaminations.
"From the moment organizations have designed a contingency plan, they are
in a position not only to support their employees during a period that
threatens their personal health but they are also able to provide ways to
identify key risks. This can be enabled through a reliance on clear
information, clear procedures such as meeting isolation requirements, planning
effective transport strategies and enabling the correct health center
processes. All of these measures will prevent the panic that can inevitably
result in such a situation, whilst protecting against a potentially disastrous
decrease in an organization's productivity. These preparations are also
essential to avoid generalized hysteria," states Modulo's co-founder, Alvaro
Lima.
Modulo's IT GRC software, Modulo Risk Manager(TM), was first applied in a
pandemic scenario when it was implemented by Banco Real, one of the biggest
Brazilian banks (part of Santander Group), during the Avian Flu scenario in
2006. The solution was adopted as a tool for internal risk management and a
solution was developed to support the necessary decisions in the event of
wholesale contamination.
