Former Madoff Counsel Speaking at Insurance Litigation Seminar Dec. 2

NEW YORK, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Ira Lee Sorkin will deliver the keynote
presentation during the "Madoff Insurance Litigation Conference" taking place
in New York on Dec. 2, 2009.

Sorkin, a partner in the New York office of Dickstein Shapiro LLP, is
Co-Leader of the firm's Litigation, Regulatory and Compliance; and White
Collar Criminal Defense & Investigations Practices.  While he has a long
career in the areas of securities law and white-collar defense, including a
long list of both public and private sector positions, and is a frequent
writer and lecturer, today Sorkin is better known to many as the attorney who
represented Bernard Madoff in the federal government's case against him for
securities fraud.

In the 1970s Sorkin was an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and then Deputy Chief, of
the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District
of New York.

In the mid-1980s he was Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission's New York office, where his team investigated and prosecuted
numerous violations of the federal securities laws, including stock
manipulation, insider trading, books and records, mutual funds fraud, sales of
unregistered securities, fraud by investment advisors, and other violations. 
From 1995 to 1997 he served as the Chief Legal Officer and a member of the
board of directors for Nomura Holding America, Inc. and Nomura Securities
International, Inc., a member firm of the New York Stock Exchange.

Sorkin has lectured for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, the American
Bar Association, the Practising Law Institute, the Securities Industry
Association, the FINRA, the North American State Securities Administrators,
and the U.S. Department of Justice training seminar for Federal Prosecutors. 
He authored "Insider Trading Under Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange
Act," "Civil RICO in Mail, Wire, Securities, and Commodities Fraud Cases," and
"Disciplinary Actions Before Self-Regulatory Organizations."  He co-authored
"A Practical Guide to Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002," "An Overview of SEC
Investigations," and "Thompson, Holder and Seaboard - Do They Frustrate the
Prevention, Discovery and Punishment of Crime?"

The Dec. 2, 2009 program, "Madoff Insurance Litigation Conference," is being
chaired by Richard J. Bortnick and Kevin Mattessich of Cozen O'Connor and
