General Barry R. McCaffrey, USA(Ret.) To Testify Before House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Four-Star General Barry McCaffrey, USA(Ret.), former commander in Desert Storm, now Adjunct Professor at West Point, and former Director, Office of National Drug Control Policy, will testify before the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations on Thursday, 22 October at the House Visitor's Center at 2:00pm. The hearing will focus on U.S. strategy in Afghanistan and how that affects strategy in Iraq. General McCaffrey will present testimony on the state of the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan -- and how after eight years with the burden of the war in Afghanistan, the Afghan people are becoming increasingly frustrated by a lack of progress. The Taliban are getting strong and the Afghan security forces cannot offer their people the protection they need. McCaffrey's testimony highlights the need for a sustained and appropriately resourced civil-military counterinsurgency campaign with strong economic and political components in order to establish a resilient, self-sufficient Afghan polity in the long-term.
