Atheros Demonstrates Its Expanded Communications Technology Portfolio at
Computex Taipei
New Solutions Enhance the User Experience with High Capacity Home Networking
and Enable Innovative Mobile Wireless Products
TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- COMPUTEX -- Atheros
Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHR), a leading developer of advanced
semiconductor system solutions for wireless and wired communications, is
demonstrating its greatly expanded communications portfolio at Computex 2008.
This week Atheros will mark the achievement of two milestones: its recent 10-
year anniversary and having shipped over 200 million wireless LAN chipsets.
While Atheros has grown its Wi-Fi leadership with a variety of popular 802.11g
solutions and the industry's most widely-adopted 802.11n solutions, the
XSPAN(R) family of technologies, the company has also broadened its customer
offering to include mobile WLAN, GPS, Bluetooth and Ethernet. The entire
portfolio is being demonstrated at COMPUTEX in Taipei, Taiwan, June 3-7, 2008,
in its Technology Suite (#2407/2408) at the Grand Hyatt Taipei.
Atheros XSPAN(R) 802.11n Family of Technologies
Atheros is demonstrating the industry's first single-board, dual-radio
router platform featuring single-chip 802.11n technology. The new AR9002AP
provides 600 Mbps aggregate PHY rates and access to the full, 27-channel Wi-Fi
spectrum to deliver maximum home networking capacity and universal
connectivity to the growing number of devices on home networks. The solution
features the highest level of chip and board integration to significantly
lower the cost of dual-concurrent, retail networking products.
Atheros is also demonstrating its innovative iQUE(TM) technology suite,
which enables a new level of quality of service to enhance advanced wireless
networking in the home. The AR9002AP platform employs iQUE to deliver smooth,
reliable video streaming throughout the home for the consummate user
experience. For more information about the AR9002AP solution, see the product
press release at http://www.atheros.com/news/AR9002AP.htm.
Atheros will demonstrate the industry's first shipping, single-chip 11n
PCIe solutions, the AR9280 and AR9281, in an array of PC implementations.
These designs are the most compact 802.11n solutions for PCs, and provide
market-leading 11n performance and power efficiency. It will also display the
AR9220 and AR9223 PCI solutions for home gateways, which deliver the cost and
design efficiencies of Atheros' high-performance, single-chip 11n technology
to carrier customers.
Atheros ROCm(R) Mobile WLAN, GPS and Bluetooth Technologies
Atheros is demonstrating the world's lowest power, mobile WLAN solution,
the AR6002, which features nominal impact on battery life, even in active
mode. This single-chip design is popular with designers who are integrating
Wi-Fi into devices like smartphones, personal media players (PMPs), digital
still cameras, gaming and other portable consumer electronics.
The company's new GPS solutions -- a single-chip GPS receiver, the Atheros
AR1511, and companion ORION 3.0 software suite -- will be demonstrating state-
of-the-art Assisted GPS (AGPS) technology, which is essential for supporting
advanced navigation on mobile phones and other mobile devices. Additionally,
Atheros will be demonstrating a new GPS-enabled platform featuring RMI's
Alchemy multimedia processor and a compact SIP GPS module from AzureWave.
Atheros' will also demonstrate its ROCm Bluetooth for PCs, the AR3011, the
industry's first Bluetooth solution engineered expressly to satisfy PC
requirements, and the AR3031 Bluetooth solution for headsets, which offers
market-leading power efficiencies and design flexibility.
Atheros ETHOS(TM) Ethernet Technologies
Atheros will display a variety of end user products with its Fast and
Gigabit Ethernet controller and PHY solutions, and also demonstrate its ETHOS
switch technology in the AR9002AP dual-radio 802.11n router.
