Top U.S. Student Eco-Ambassadors to Stay Busy at The Weather Channel Forecast Earth Summit
Celebrity Guest and TWC Personalities to Lead Presentations and
Activities
ATLANTA--(Business Wire)--The 22 eco-ambassadors selected to attend the Forecast Earth
Summit by The Weather Channel will experience speakers, discussions
and hands-on activities. Speakers will include scientists Dr. Heidi
Cullen and Dr. Marcus Eriksen of The Weather Channel, actress and
environmentalist Hayden Panettiere, and musician and philanthropist
Adam Garner, among others.
Participating students at the Forecast Earth Summit will work
together with Dr. Eriksen to create a boat made entirely of recycled
materials. Together with the students, Dr. Eriksen will launch the
eco-canoe in to the Potomac River as an example of eco-ingenuity and
teamwork. The students will also create a public service announcement
(PSA) that will air on The Weather Channel network, online at
weather.com and in selected local television markets.
In addition, eco-ambassadors will tour Capitol Hill, the well
known Sidwell School and the Koshland Science Museum. Other activities
include an endangered species presentation by Jarod Miller and his
animals, a focus group with the National Environmental Education
Foundation, environmental issues panel discussion, photographs with
Hayden Panettiere, and an iChat interview with Taylor Francis, the
youngest-ever speaker trained personally by Al Gore to spread the
message about the climate crisis as part of The Climate Project. The
agenda also includes organic meals, eco-friendly transportation and
stays at an environmentally "green" hotel.
Created by The Weather Channel, the Forecast Earth Summit will
focus on environmental education and provide interaction with numerous
environmental leaders, enthusiasts and scientists, including Dr. Heidi
Cullen, climate expert at The Weather Channel. The Weather Channel
recently announced the group of 22 high school "eco-ambassadors"
selected through a nationwide essay contest to showcase their passion
for helping the environment. The 22 winning students, representing 14
states, will participate in the upcoming Forecast Earth Summit

Event Speaker: Hayden Panettiere
When she isn't saving the world on the television show "Heroes,"
Hayden Panettiere is out saving the world in real life. Best known for
her role as superhero Claire Bennet, Panettiere has also made
headlines for her environmental outreach. Panettiere began her acting
career in commercials, moved on to soap operas, and has since appeared
in many feature films and TV movies. Panettiere will also speak about
her involvement in the Save the Dolphins campaign and the "Declare
Yourself" to vote initiative (www.declareyourself.com).
Welcome and Overview: Dr. Heidi Cullen
Climatologist at The Weather Channel, Dr. Heidi is the host of
"Forecast Earth: This Week," the weekly climate program on The Weather
Channel that airs Saturdays at 5 p.m. ET. She has been with The
Weather Channel as climate expert since 2003 and has the key
responsibility of adding explanation, depth and perspective to climate
stories on air and online. Prior to joining The Weather Channel as a
climatologist in 2003, Dr. Heidi was a scientist with the National
Center for Atmospheric Research and the International Research
Institute for Climate Prediction.
Zoology Presentation: Jarod Miller
Jarod Miller is a young naturalist, zoologist and lecturer on
captive management and wildlife conservation. At 25, he was the
youngest accredited zoo director in the country. The production
company he created, Wild Encounters, provides U.S. students an
opportunity to learn about the world's animal habitats. Host of his
own TV series, "Animal Exploration with Jarod Miller, he is also a
regular guest on shows such as The Today Show and The Tonight Show
with Jay Leno.
Recyclable Materials: Dr. Marcus Eriksen
Dr. Marcus hosts "Commmando Weather" on The Weather Channel. An
advocate for "showing" rather than "telling, he'll do anything in the
name of weather, such as standing knee deep in a landfill, crawling
through a storm drain or diving through ocean pollution. He is also
director of education and research for the Algalita Marine Research
Foundation.
Environmental Philanthropy: Adam Garner
Adam Gardner sings and plays guitar in his band, Guster, and is
co-director of the non-profit organization Reverb. Reverb educates and
engages musicians and their fans to promote environmental
sustainability. Gardner and Reverb have worked with more than 650
concert events and 45 major tours including Dave Matthews Band, Bonnie
Raitt, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
