The award recognizes the nation's leading corporations for innovative programs
that promote a healthy workplace and for helping employees and their families
make better choices about their health and well-being.

Texas Health was among 63 employers nationally to receive the award this year.
It was presented June 24 in Washington, D.C. during the Joint Summit of the
Institutes on Health Care Costs and Solutions & the Costs and Health Effects
of Obesity.

"At Texas Health, our mission is to improve the health of the people in the
communities we serve, and our community begins right here, within the Texas
Health family," said Texas Health Resources CEO Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE.
"We are so proud to be recognized for making the health and wellness of our
employees a top priority."

Texas Health employs more than 18,000 people in North Texas. Its wellness
program, called Be Healthy, emphasizes awareness, healthy lifestyle choices,
and disease prevention. Each year, employees are invited to complete a health
risk assessment and are given a $100 award for doing so. Additional awards are
given for getting a physical, lab panel, various health screenings, or for
taking a stress assessment.

Employees also have access to multiple other wellness opportunities, including
discounted memberships to Weight Watchers at Work and local fitness centers, a
smoking cessation program, and an Employee Assistance Program.

"As one of 63 companies recognized this year for their employee health and
wellness programs, Texas Health is at the vanguard of a national movement to
promote a system-wide culture of health emphasizing prevention, exercise, and
eating right," said Helen Darling, President of the National Business Group on
Health. "More than ever, a healthy workforce is critical to helping America's
large employers compete in the global marketplace."

Now in its fifth year, the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards
recognize those employers that have truly embraced a culture of wellness and
are working collaboratively to improve their workers' health, productivity and
quality of life. The underlying goal of the program is to serve as a catalyst
to encourage all employers to take action.
