Company Awards $2 Billion in Subcontracts to Small Businesses

MCLEAN, Va. and SAN DIEGO, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science
Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) today announced that
its small business strategy has yielded a record level of small business
utilization for Government Fiscal Year 2009 (GFY 09), which ended in
September. During GFY 09, SAIC awarded approximately $2 billion in
subcontracts to small businesses, reflecting a 21 percent increase from last
year. This included approximately $727 million awarded to women- and
minority-owned firms, and more than $335 million awarded to veteran-owned
businesses.

SAIC's GFY 09 performance significantly exceeded the government's statutory
goals for women- and minority-owned businesses, as well as service disabled
veteran-owned businesses. The results are the culmination of a series of
initiatives implemented by SAIC, aimed at developing strong relationships with
small businesses and increasing business opportunities for them. These
initiatives include free training provided to small businesses by SAIC in
areas including business and proposal development, pricing, and program
management.

"The success of small businesses is vital to our nation's economic growth and
prosperity," said Arnold Punaro, SAIC executive vice president of Government
Affairs, Communications and Support Operations. "We are pleased to be a
recognized leader in small business utilization and will continue to support
the growth and development of these companies."

SAIC has been recognized for outstanding work by the Small Business
Administration (SBA), the Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal
