Launch WOW on International Women's Day

    NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- wowOwow.com, a website created, owned,
and written by women for women, will launch on March 8, 2008, International
Women's Day.
    (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080306/NYTH093 )
Candice Bergen, Joan Juliet Buck, Joan Ganz Cooney, Joni Evans, Whoopi
Goldberg, Judith Martin, Sheila Nevins, Peggy Noonan, Julia Reed, Liz Smith,
Lesley Stahl, Marlo Thomas, Lily Tomlin, Jane Wagner, and Mary Wells are the
WOW contributors.
Consulting editor Joan Juliet Buck, former editor-in-chief of French
Vogue, says that, "There is a point in every woman's life when she doesn't
have to lie any more. The WOW Women have reached that point, and that's what
they're going to teach the world. It's the biggest gift a woman can give --
and exactly what she has been taught NOT to give. That's what makes this site
revolutionary."
All of the features will be fully interactive, and readers are encouraged
to post alongside the WOW Women. The WOW Women will post a daily conversation
on topics ranging from Obama and Clinton including "flirting on the campaign
trail" to poverty in Kenya to fashion designer Halston in addition to posting
short articles on a frequent basis. The WOW Women will be candid, and share
what defines them individually.
In the "Question of the Day" section alone, the WOW Women answer tough
questions like "What would you divorce your husband for?" to fun questions
like "What was your first kiss?" What's Liz Smith's greatest lie? "Pretending
I am good-hearted, generous, gregarious, outgoing and lovable when inside I am
paralyzed with shyness and insecurity and doubts about my abilities. And,
sometimes, doubts about yours."
WOW is designed to be a community for a unique audience of accomplished
women over forty. WOW invites women across the country to join them online to
speak together on a level that goes beyond the mundane, beyond their roles as
wives, daughters, mothers, and grandmothers.
The WOW women and their audience are more socially, politically, and
financially empowered than any previous generation of women, and theirs is the
fastest growing demographic on the internet. Since 2007, over half of internet
users are women, including over 47 million Women 45+.
With daily conversations, the "Question of the Day," the Hair Day Weather
Report (which analyzes the weather in your area, and tells how it will affect
your hair), and other regularly updated features, the site will never be the
same two days in a row.
"wowOwow is a party -- only disguised as a website -- where we can meet
for coffee (in our robes) or for cocktails (without any makeup) or even in the
middle of the night (someone's always up)," WOW CEO Joni Evans says. "Here we
can talk to our readers, exchange news and gossip, invite the most interesting
and informed guests, share experiences and tell tales out of school, process
news and make some of our own."
