Will Replace Susanne Guyer, Who Is Retiring

WASHINGTON, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon has tapped Kathleen Grillo to lead
its federal regulatory team in Washington. Grillo will become senior vice
president of federal regulatory affairs on Sept. 1, replacing Susanne Guyer,
who announced her retirement earlier this week.

"Kathy has the experience and respect needed to hit the ground running as
Verizon's primary advocate on policy issues before the Federal Communications
Commission," said Tom Tauke, Verizon executive vice president of public
affairs, policy and communications. "She is an effective leader and will be a
strong and fair proponent for consumer-friendly policies in the regulatory
sphere."

Grillo joined Verizon in 2002 as legal counsel in the legal department's
federal regulatory group. She became vice president of federal regulatory
affairs in 2003. In that position, she has developed and advanced Verizon's
federal regulatory policy on a variety of issues and represented the company
at the Federal Communications Commission and in various other venues.

Prior to joining Verizon, Grillo was an associate at Williams & Connolly, a
Washington, D.C.-based law firm, and law clerk to Judge Harold H. Greene of
the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She holds a B.A. from
the University of Virginia and a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law
School. She is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and
former chair of the Computer and Telecommunications Law Section of the D.C.
Bar.

Guyer will retire from Verizon effective Aug. 31.
