Creative Economy Exhibition to Light Up the UN Pavilion At the Shanghai World
Expo 2010

NEW YORK, July 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- UN-Habitat and the Special Unit
for South-South Cooperation in UNDP signed a Memorandum of Understanding
establishing the Global South Creative Economy exhibition in the UN Pavilion
at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

UN-Habitat is the lead UN agency for the coordination of the UN Pavilion and
the Special Unit is one of the leading UN bodies promoting creative economy as
a tool for development.

The Global South Creative Economy exhibition will depict how the creative
economy is an engine for better livable cities with better lifestyles for all
in alignment with the Shanghai World Expo 2010 theme: Better City, Better
Life. Whenever these goals are achieved, people are at centre stage and
involved in activities that use creativity as a main resource. The creative
economy can be an important driver for economic growth and the agenda,
represented at this exhibition, takes a broader view, asserting that long-term
sustainable development can be achieved by effectively utilizing creative
assets.

The Special Unit will produce and operate the Creative Economy exhibition in
the UN Pavilion which will include Creative Corridors, a UN Creative Night,
and a Creative Economy Week.

Creative Corridors will be a permanent multimedia exhibition that will portray
the contribution of creative activities to social, economic, environmental and
cultural development. The Creative Corridors will be on display during the
six-month duration of the World Expo. The featured creative activities will be
selected from around the world.

The UN Creative Night will celebrate United Nations Day, 24 October, with
international performances.

The Creative Economy Week will consist of a series of multi-agency workshops
and meetings that will be held from 19 to 24 October 2010. Participants will
discuss the Creative Economy as a tool for development.

This partnership will promote the development benefits of the creative economy
while attracting interest in the UN Pavilion among the 70 million visitors
that are expected to attend the World Expo 2010.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Lars Reutersward on behalf of
UN-Habitat and Yiping Zhou on behalf of the Special Unit.
