Fundraising Efforts for the Largest Healthcare Project in California Invites
Community Participation
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
John Muir Health Foundation, the charitable fundraising organization for all
John Muir Health programs and services announced today an increased goal of $60
million for its "Breaking New Ground Right Here" Capital Campaign to support the
expansion and renovation of John Muir Health`s Walnut Creek and Concord
campuses. Having achieved an important milestone of more than $40 million raised
to date, the Foundation has increased the overall Campaign goal from $56 million
to $60 million to encourage maximum community participation.

"The growing excitement about the new hospital facilities has already motivated
many donors to contribute generously to the Campaign," said Milt Smith,
president of John Muir Health Foundation. "This is the largest healthcare
project in California and the biggest investment in the health of our community
today. We are proud to extend the Foundation`s commitment and are excited about
the next phase of the Campaign."

Originally launched in 2007 with a goal to raise $40 million, the Campaign
expanded last fall to include fundraising efforts for both the Concord and
Walnut Creek campuses. After receiving tremendous initial support from major
donors, the Campaign leadership has further increased the goal and invites
individuals, families, foundations, and businesses to participate. Contributions
to the Capital Campaign will help fund the state-of-the-art expansion and
renovations that will include world-class patient care facilities, equipment,
and technology at Walnut Creek and Concord.

"During tough economic times, philanthropy plays a vital role in funding such a
major building project. The Capital Campaign not only provides much needed
funding for the new buildings, but it also prevents John Muir Health from
exhausting hospital reserves, and continues to support our very strong credit
rating in the bond market," Smith said. "The additional $4 million we`ve added
to our Campaign goal will further help relieve some of the economic pressures
related to the expansion project, and provide even greater opportunity for our
staff, patients, and community supporters to participate in this historic
campaign."

John Muir Health`s award-winning, locally managed healthcare services recently
made national headlines - its Walnut Creek Campus was ranked in the top 50 of
U.S. News and World Report`s "Americas Best Hospitals" 2009 survey for digestive
disorders and orthopedics. John Muir Medical Center-Concord Campus was
recognized as the top-rated cardiac surgery program in Northern California in
2009 by HealthGrades, an independent healthcare quality company, and for the
second consecutive year. The current expansion will bolster John Muir Health`s
capabilities to continue its long-standing tradition of unparalleled patient
care.
