First Offices at the Cathedral Center of Christ the Light Scheduled to Open
OAKLAND, Calif.--(Business Wire)-- The first occupancy at the Cathedral Center of Christ the Light - 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland - will take place this Monday, July 21, when the administrative Chancery offices of the Catholic Diocese of Oakland open for business. The administrative offices were previously located across Lake Merritt on Lakeshore Avenue. Nearly 100 Chancery employees are moving to their new offices over the weekend and normal business hours will resume on Monday, from 8:30AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. The Chancery office entrance is on the 21st St. side of the Cathedral Center. Other Cathedral Center components open to the public beginning Monday will be its underground parking garage and public areas on the plaza level. The garage is available for paid public parking with entrance on 21st street. Because of recent plantings, certain garden spaces on the plaza level will be inaccessible for a period of time. Other areas of the Cathedral campus will open soon. (1) The Cathedral church is closed to the public during final construction. It will be dedicated on September 25 and a full mass schedule will begin on Monday September 29. Mass times will be announced soon. (2) The Cathedral conference center will be available for public events in September. Scheduling and catering information will be available soon after an operator is announced. (3) Two new retail operations on the plaza level are planning openings. The Cathedral Shop will open in late August and will feature inspirational books as well as sacred art, religious medals, rosaries and related gifts. Several books about the Cathedral are being published and will be sold in the shop in early September. A cafe will also open on the plaza level in September.
