Sullivan & Worcester LLP Wins $10.5 Million Verdict on Behalf of Telecommunications Entrepreneur Alfred West Against IDT Corporation

BOSTON--(Business Wire)--
Sullivan & Worcester LLP announced today that it won a $10.5
million jury verdict on behalf of its client, Alfred West, against IDT
Corporation, of Newark, New Jersey, in the United States District
Court for the District of New Jersey. After a three-week trial, the
New Jersey jury found that IDT had breached a handwritten contract
(attached) that its Chairman, Howard Jonas, drafted and signed while
recruiting West, a telecommunications entrepreneur from Brooklyn, New
York. The jury also found that IDT violated its duty of good faith and
fair dealing.

Barry Pollack, a partner in S&W's Boston office and a former
federal prosecutor in the Newark, New Jersey Office of the United
States Attorney, served as lead trial counsel for Mr. West. Joseph
Scholz of McCarter & English, LLP, in Newark, New Jersey, and Joshua
L. Solomon of S&W's Boston office, tried the case with Mr. Pollack.
When asked about the case, Mr. Pollack said, "The verdict confirms
that, whether on a slip of paper or in an 80-page contract, the words
'this is binding' mean 'this is binding.'"

Mr. West is currently the President and CEO of Xchange Telecom,
Inc., of Brooklyn, New York. Mr. West formerly served as the CEO and
Chairman of Econophone, Inc., later known as Destia, Inc. (Nasdaq,
DEST), and as an officer of Viatel Inc.
