OKI Increases its Lineup of Power Management LSIs for Mobile Devices
- The Company Adds 8 Models Including LDO Regulator to Reduce
Power Consumption by 80-90% in Standby Mode -
TOKYO--(Business Wire)--Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6703) today announced the
launch of 8 new models of power management LSIs suitable for mobile
devices. The new LSIs which will be available from January 2008,
provide low power consumption, low noise and high efficiency.
"We entered the power management LSI market in July 2006 to
leverage our strength in manufacturing technologies for high-voltage
and lower power consumption devices, which are widely used in
manufacturing processes and TFT LCD driver LSIs. The models we add
today significantly reduce power consumption which means longer
battery life for mobile devices," said Takaki Yamada, President of
Silicon Microdevice Company at Oki Electric Industry. "Going forward
we will continue to provide various kinds of power management LSIs
with a variety of functions, not only for mobile and portable devices
but also for flat panel displays and printers."
Mobile devices, such as mobile phones, are becoming sophisticated
with built-in camera, music player, TV tuner for one-segment
broadcasting and capability for handling electronic money -- all of
which require longer batter life. OKI's news LDO(1) regulator provides
power consumption of 50-100nA in standby mode and 3-12uA in no-load
mode. This is an 80-90% reduction in power consumption compared to the
industry standard, and is ideal for sophisticated mobile devices. The
efficiency of OKI's step-down DC/DC converter is 95% at an output
current of 500mA, which is higher than conventional converters, thus
offering an attractive solution as the main power supply for digital
still cameras.
(Glossary)
(1) LDO (low drop out) regulator:
A regulator used to create a stable DC voltage by utilizing a
continuous linear analog control which operates even when the
