West Hollywood City Council to Consider Directing City Manager to Work with L.A. County to Authorize the City of West Hollywood to Be Designated Location for the Issuance of Marriage Licenses at Regularly Scheduled City Council Meeting

WHAT: In response to the California Supreme Court's ruling to
legalize same-sex marriage, the West Hollywood City Council
will consider directing the City Manager to work with Los
Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's office to gain
authorization for the City of West Hollywood to be a
designated location for the issuance of marriage licenses.
The item is co-sponsored by Mayor Pro Tempore Abbe Land and
Councilmember John Heilman.
Since its incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood
has been one of the most ardent advocates for the legal
rights of same-sex couples and the right to marry. The City
was one of the first cities in the country to pass a
resolution in support of same-sex marriage. The City of West
Hollywood is known throughout the world for its pioneering
efforts on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgendered (LGBT) rights and established one of the first
domestic partnership laws in the country in 1985.
