What: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Secretary Bradshaw and
Director Duncan will tour the Carpenters Training Center for
Northern California and promote the critical need to recruit
apprentices to help build the public works projects included
in the Governor's Strategic Growth Plan.
When: Monday, March 10, 2008, 10:30 a.m.
Where: Carpenters Training Committee for Northern California
800 Chadbourne Road
Fairfield, CA
Who: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
California Labor & Workforce Development Agency Secretary
Victoria Bradshaw
California Department of Industrial Relations Director
John C. Duncan
Northern California Carpenters Regional Council Executive
Director
Robert Alvarado
Apprentices currently in Northern California apprenticeship
programs
Why: Apprenticeship programs lead to good paying jobs. Under
California law, public works projects require one apprentice
for every five journeymen on the job. California has more
than 65,000 apprentices but will need nearly 200,000 over
the next 10-12 years. Thousands of highly skilled Baby Boom
generation craftsmen are expected to retire over the next
several years creating a shortage of workers in the skilled
trades.
