The University of Melbourne Chooses TIBCO Software for Integration Project
TIBCO BusinessWorks(TM) to reduce the complexity of the university's
information systems and pave the way for new technology initiatives
MELBOURNE, Australia, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TIBCO Software
Inc. (Nasdaq: TIBX) today announced that the University of Melbourne has
selected its integration and orchestration software to help establish a more
agile and adaptable IT environment that can scale to support the university's
new technology initiatives.
As part of its agreement with the university, TIBCO will provide
professional consultation and implementation services, conduct technical
training for staff, and deploy TIBCO BusinessWorks to tie together the
university's myriad applications and data exchanges on a single integration
platform.
Jason Nell, Manager, Systems Development and Integration at the University
of Melbourne, and project manager involved in the evaluation and selection of
the TIBCO solution, believes the integration project is a reflection of wider
technology trends in the tertiary education sector.
"Universities are often decentralised in their IT services provision. Over
time they acquire and develop a wide range of applications and systems using a
combination of vendors and in-house development often without a view to
enterprise integration. Many institutions are now in a situation where they
need to review their information systems strategies to support increasingly
agile business models, where reducing barriers to integration and moving to a
modular approach to application development are key requirements to supporting
future business growth," he said.
TIBCO will help the university streamline its enterprise systems
integration, by replacing point-to-point connections between applications with
an enterprise service bus approach. Additionally, the highly scalable nature
of the BusinessWorks platform will also facilitate the rapid development and
integration of new systems.
The initial deployment phase involves a range of challenges from simple,
low-level data transfers which will be made more robust through deployment on
the BusinessWorks platform, to the development of data and business logic
libraries allowing for re-use. Additionally, TIBCO will train staff in the
university's systems development and integration unit to use both
BusinessWorks and other TIBCO platforms such as BusinessStudio(TM), TIBCO's
development environment for process modeling.
"The reasons we selected to work with TIBCO were the maturity and
accessibility of its BusinessWorks(TM) platform and the partnership approach
adopted by the vendor. TIBCO BusinessWorks provides us with a trusted
platform, which is the result of sustained investment in engineering while
TIBCO's partnership approach supports us to develop organizationally in terms
of our architecture and integration maturity, which ultimately allows IT to
better support our business," Mr. Nell said.
Mark Fahmy, regional vice president for Australia, New Zealand and India
at TIBCO, said, "The University of Melbourne was proving to be a great partner
-- competent, receptive to ideas and change, progressive, and attuned to their
issues. TIBCO is delighted to have as our customer such an eminent university
-- one which is not only recognized as a leader in Australasia but
highly-regarded world-wide," Mark Fahmy added.
Mark Fahmy said the partnership with the University of Melbourne was
TIBCO's first in tertiary education in Australia, a sector which he believes
will take off in coming years, as universities become more competitive,
flexible and distributed in their service delivery, requiring the deployment
of integration platforms, such as TIBCO BusinessWorks, to facilitate efficient
information flow across the organization.
TIBCO BusinessWorks and TIBCO BusinessStudio are now generally available.
