contestants have it all. Over 2.5 million fans worldwide tune in
faithfully to watch the glitz and glamour of the competition. Pageant
and City of Hollywood officials agree that the event offers much more
than great entertainment. The contest also brings an important influx
of money and publicity to the community.

   Every year beautiful and accomplished young women from around the
state descend on the city of Hollywood for the pageant. Approximately
60 finalists arrive for five days of competition, culminating with an
internationally televised show. Joining the contestants are hundreds
of family members, pageant coaches, event sponsors, press and fans;
all looking to enjoy and to savor everything Hollywood has to offer.
Participants shop, dine and lodge at local businesses for the duration
of the pageant. According to officials, last year's event resulted in
approximately 1,000 hotel night stays, and over $550,000 in
expenditures. The estimated economic impact to the community last year
was $896,000.00.

   The benefits of hosting the Miss Florida USA pageant extend well
beyond the weeklong competition. Hollywood receives almost $1,000,000
of media coverage focusing on all the attributes the city offers as a
destination. The pageant is televised around the state and in 47
countries in the Caribbean, South & Central America, Europe and Asia.
Additionally, the city is featured in The Miss Florida USA YouTube

   Entering its 58th year of competition and 29th year of broadcast,
the Miss Florida USA 2009 Pageant is scheduled to take place from July
8th-July 12th, 2008. The winner will be crowned in a live two-hour
show on the evening of Saturday, July 12, 2008 from Broward Community
College's Bailey Hall.
