5th Round Robin Test Seminar Held in Taipei in a Joint Project between RWPPI and TRIA to Promote the High Levels of Recording and Playback Compatibility with DVD-RW/DVD-R Products TAIPEI, Taiwan--(Business Wire)-- RW Products Promotion Initiative (RWPPI, President Hiroki Aizawa) held Taiwan's 5th Round Robin Test Seminar in Taipei on February 21. The seminar was held from 10:00 a.m. in the Spring City Resort Hotel. In continuation of the previous seminar, the activities and success achieved in the RWPPI Round Robin Test(a) in Taiwan, which is experiencing remarkable growth supplying the standard DVD-RW/DVD-R market, were promoted, and invitations to take part in the compatibility tests were extended to a large number of Taiwanese manufacturers. A report on the activities of RWPPI, which is the promotional mother body of the Round Robin Test activities, concentrating on the test results of the 7th Compatibility Test (Stage #7) that was carried out between June 2007 and January 2008 was presented during the seminar. Stage #7, participated in by thirty-six RWPPI member companies, involved the implementation of the world's largest DVD compatibility test affiliated with the RDVDC Compatibility Working Group (three RDVDC member companies,) and verified recording and playback compatibility for targeted recording speeds (DVD-RW DL: 2x, DVD-R DL: 8x, and 8 cm DVD-R DL: 2x and 4x) on equipment and products (hardware, media, PC applications, etc.) produced by manufacturers in the field of recordable DVDs throughout the world. The results obtained during this are explained in more detail below. (2) Logical compatibility tests covering 57 items were implemented on 68 models produced by seven companies with regard to the writers that support DVD-RW and DVD-R discs, recording and playback compatibility was confirmed for all of these models, and we were able to strengthen a common understanding of the participating members' standards at the same time. (3) High levels of compatibility were confirmed in 51 items (VR mode, DVD-RW, DVD-R and 8 cm discs supporting CPRM) covering recording, playback and editing functions for 23 models produced by eight companies with regard to recorders, DVD camcorders and PC authoring software that support DVD-RW and DVD-R discs.
