State Farm(R) Home Run Derby(R) Goes Yard for Players, Fans and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) Festivities Bring $665,000 Donation To Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Derby Crown to Prince Fielder ST. LOUIS, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Offering extra innings of life's big moments to fans and participants, the State Farm Home Run Derby hit for the home run cycle, providing compelling, exciting action for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Derby Champ Prince Fielder. "With special acknowledgement to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the 2009 State Farm Home Run Derby was a huge success for fans, participants, and State Farm agents and employees," said Mark Gibson, Assistant Vice President of Advertising for State Farm. "State Farm was there for all the big moments of this year's Home Run Derby. What a night for everyone involved." For every home run hit during the Derby, State Farm donated $5,000. With Fielder taking the Derby crown, the eight participating Major League Baseball sluggers hit 75 home runs, totaling a $375,000 donation from State Farm to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Additionally, Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers, Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins, Carlos Pena of the Tampa Bay Rays, Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers, Adrian Gonzalez of the San Diego Padres, Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies and Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals hit 10 State Farm Gold Balls over the Busch Stadium wall, bringing $170,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America from State Farm and MLB. For each Gold Ball home run hit, State Farm and MLB donated $17,000 to the BGCA. State Farm also presented a $120,000 check to the local Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Louis, including $50,000 to the Bethalto Boys & Girls Club, which was paired (via chapter member Kylie Kochel) with State Farm Home Run Derby winner Prince Fielder. Eight members from St. Louis community BGCA chapters were matched with Home Run Derby participants for a chance to win $50,000 for a teen center at their local Club. The member of the BGCA chapter who was matched up with the winner of the Home Run Derby won $50,000 for their club. The other seven clubs received a $10,000 donation.
