UFCW Local 99 Negotiations Advisory Committee Meets to Plan Strike Against Fry's and/or Safeway Phoenix, Ariz. (Nov. 10) - UFCW Local 99 leaders and staff will meet with the union's Negotiations Advisory Committee to prepare for a potential strike against Fry's and/or Safeway. If a settlement with the employers is not reached this week, a labor action could begin as early as Friday evening, Nov. 13. Also attending Wednesday's meeting at the Airport Marriott will be leaders of the UFCW International Union, presidents of UFCW local unions from across North America, and representatives of Local 99's union allies in the Food & Drug Council. At the meeting, the union will train picket captains, assemble picket signs and make other preparations for a historic showdown with the supermarket employers. A convoy of trucks driven from various regions of the country by members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will be in the parking lot as a demonstration of union solidarity.
