SONIC's SonoAsh joint venture with Nalco-Mobotec files patent application for
fly ash beneficiation process
TSX Venture Exchange Symbol: SNV
VANCOUVER, July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - SONIC Technology Solutions Inc.
("SONIC" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that SonoAsh LLC has filed a
patent application for fly ash beneficiation in the USA under the Patent
Cooperation Treaty (PCT). PCT patent applications allow national filings at a
subsequent date throughout most of the world. Additional filings were made in
Thailand and Taiwan who are not PCT signatories.
SonoAsh LLC is a joint venture between Sonic and Nalco-Mobotec which was
announced February 27th, 2009. The recent patent application is based on the
Company's earlier provisional patent applications and incorporates further
development work undertaken by SonoAsh in the last four months. The SonoAsh
technology re-processes waste fly ash from coal fired power stations for reuse
as a desirable substitute or additive to cement in concrete production. The
amount of waste ash is increasing as emissions control methods for coal fired
power stations introduce chemicals such as ammonia and activated carbon which
adversely impact usage of the waste ash in concrete. The SonoAsh process is an
integrated conditioning and treatment process which beneficiates waste fly ash
into desirable and valuable products for use in concrete.
SonoAsh LLC is currently working to develop a demonstration and pilot process
plant and has already made good progress towards a comprehensive integrated
process to beneficiate fly ash. SonoAsh development and commercialization
costs are currently met by Nalco-Mobotec under the terms of the joint venture.
Nalco-Mobotec is an established air emissions solutions provider serving the
industrial and utility coal fired energy industry throughout the world

The European Union and the EPA in the USA have set goals for increased use of
fly ash in concrete in recognition of the cement industry having one of the
largest carbon footprints. Regulatory pressure is also limiting the use of ash
ponds to store waste fly ash due to potential leaching issues, unless the ash
is re-processed. Globally the beneficiation and reuse of waste fly ash for the
cement industry is a very valuable technology.
