VASCO Data Security Enhances DIGIPASS 830 with an Alfa-Numeric Screen
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. and ZURICH, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VASCO Data
Security Inc. (Nasdaq: VDSI; www.vasco.com), a leading software security
company specializing in authentication products announces at Cartes that with
DIGIPASS 830a it has enhanced its multi-functional smart card reader with an
alfa-numeric screen. DIGIPASS 830a combines e-signature functionality with
EMV-CAP compliance. It has been enhanced to further comply with the French
market emerging two-factor authentication standards and the UK APACS standard.
Alfa-numeric screens offer additional opportunities for e-signature. Hackers
using social engineering techniques take advantage from the fact that end
users not always know which information they type in. Thanks to the use of
alpha-numeric screens, card readers can display more details about the
transaction. As a result the end user involvement increases, he is provided
with more detail about the transaction, which provides him with a greater
control over the transaction.
The success of DIGIPASS 830a lies in its simple and straightforward use: users
insert their standard EMV chip card into the device and type their PIN. After
PIN-entry the DIGIPASS 830a will generate a One-Time Password (OTP) which the
user will type into the web browser to authenticate himself on the online
banking application. Through verification of the OTP or e-signature, the
cardholder's identity is confirmed and access will be granted to the e-banking
application.
DIGIPASS 830a can also be used for payments: it can seamlessly be integrated
into a 3D-Secure architecture. The card holder will enter key transaction data
onto DIGIPASS 830a before authorizing the payment.
With DIGIPASS 380a, banks not only benefit from leveraging existing
investments in EMV infrastructure, they are able to roll out two-factor
authentication to a large customer base in a cost-efficient way, considering
the card reader only becomes personalized on the insertion of the smart card
and PIN-entry.
DIGIPASS 830a is used in conjunction with VACMAN, VASCO's core back-end
authentication technology.
"DIGIPASS 830 is our multi-functional smart card reader, it is extremely
intuitive and easy-to-use. With DIGIPASS 830a, we have further enhanced it:
not only complies it with emerging two-factor authentication standards in
France and APACS in the UK, its alfa-numeric screen offers more user
convenience and trust in online transactions to the end user," says Jan
Valcke, President and COO at VASCO Data Security.
