LINTHICUM, Md., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Hardwood flooring has been a popular
choice for homeowners through the last century due to its longevity and the
value it adds to a home. Traditionally, domestic species of wood such as North
American oak, cherry, and maple have been used to enhance mid- to upper-end
homes. While these wood products are beautiful, it is difficult for an end
user to ascertain whether their material originated from a well-managed
forest; that is, until JG Architectural Supply unveiled its line of FSC
Certified Domestic wood flooring.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a third-party, international
organization based in Bonn, Germany, with national offices in more than 40
countries. The FSC has developed principles, criteria, and standards for
forest management in an effort to implement sustainable forestry practices
across the globe. Products certified by the FSC come from well-managed
forests, where not only the flora and fauna are protected, but indigenous
peoples' rights and socio-economic factors are considered as well. Currently,
FSC Certified products are the only certified wood products accepted by the US
Green Building Council (USGBC) for Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) Green Building projects.
Over the course of the last decade, several forest management certificates
were issued across the United States by the FSC. While more and more
timberlands are becoming certified against FSC standards, these certified
forests still comprise a minority of North American logging areas. Due to the
fact that there is a limited pool of FSC Certified material in North America,
such material carries a premium.
JG Architectural Supply's line of FSC Certified Domestic wood flooring
consists of North American Oak, Cherry, Maple, and Walnut prepared in a
variety of grades. These products are all available 100% FSC Certified to
ensure responsible product origins to the end user. While FSC Certified
material carries a premium in today's market, JG Architectural has elected to
sell its product at a lower profit margin to encourage its use.
