Injured Operation Iraqi Freedom Vet Gets Helping Hand

REBUILDING TOGETHER & THE PEPSI BOTTLING GROUP TEAM UP TO HELP LOCAL ARMY

WHAT: Rebuilding Together Colorado Springs will provide critical repairs and
modifications to the home of Joe and Melinda Estep, both Army veterans, with
the help of an estimated 40 community volunteers. Volunteer teams will
include employees of the Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG).

Funding for this project has been made available through a grant from the
Pepsi Bottling Group, a national partner of Rebuilding Together. PBG and
their employees have helped communities and families in 17 cities and towns
across the country by completing more than $665,000 worth of free repair
services.

Volunteers will take on a variety of tasks to make the Estep home more safe,
warm, and dry. These tasks include roof repairs, the replacement of cracked
siding, the refinishing of flooring in two bedrooms, the installation of
drywall, and painting.

WHO: Joe Estep is a purple heart recipient and resident of Colorado Springs,
CO, where he lives with his wife, Melinda, and four children. Joe served as a
Staff Sgt in the Army from 1998 until 2009. Melinda, also an Army Veteran,
served until the birth of their first child and then served in the Reserves.

While serving three tours in Iraq, Joe was wounded six times, resulting in the
loss of fingers, loss of hearing in his left ear, a Traumatic Brain Injury,
Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and eventually his medical discharge. Despite
these challenges, Joe is very active, and spends his time taking care of his
children. On Saturday afternoon Joe and Melinda will attend the Army v. Navy
football game, courtesy of PBG.
