SAIC Acquires Cybersecurity Product Testing Firm Atlan, Inc.
SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., July 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science
Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) announced today it has
acquired Atlan, Inc., a cybersecurity product testing firm that is a leading
provider of Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 and 201
validations. Atlan is headquartered in McLean, Va.
FIPS standards are U.S.governmentcomputer securitystandards issued by the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). They are used to
accredit cryptographic modules, including software and hardware components.
Atlan is a market leader in evaluating information technology (IT) security
products against FIPS standards, and also provides FIPS and secure content
application protocol (SCAP) testing services. This certification and testing
is necessary to ensure that standards are met by cryptographic modules that
collect, store, transfer, and share sensitive, but un-classified information.
These modules are primarily used by the U.S. federal government and regulated
industries, such as financial and health care institutions.
Atlan is also certified to perform FIPS 201 validation, which is required for
key technology solutions operating within Homeland Security Presidential
Directive 12 (HSPD-12) environments.
"The addition of Atlan's FIPS testing capabilities enhances SAIC's overall
cybersecurity capabilities as well as our portfolio of Common Criteria, FIPS,
and SCAP testing services," said Larry Cox, SAIC senior vice president and
business unit general manager. "The combined personnel and testing resources
of SAIC and Atlan will help strengthen our position in the government
cybersecurity product certification market."
Atlan's employees will join SAIC's Accredited Testing and Evaluation (AT&E)
Laboratories under the company's Intelligence and Information Solutions
Business Unit led by Cox.
Edward Morris, FIPS Laboratory Director at Atlan, stated, "SAIC's acquisition
provides a number of opportunities for the Atlan team. In particular, we'll be
able to extend our work to the Common Criteria market, in addition to
enhancing our ability to provide quality FIPS 140-2 and SCAP testing to a
larger marketplace."
