Before his government service, he worked at the Rand Corporation; Resources for the Future, Inc.; and the Brookings Institution. Earlier he was on the faculties of Harvard University and the Johns Hopkins University. Joschka Fischer was German foreign minister and vice chancellor from 1998 to 2005. He was the second longest serving foreign minister in German post-war history. Minister Fischer was one of the most influential leaders of the German Green movement and became the first-ever Green Party minister of the environment and energy and held the additional portfolios of federal affairs and deputy minister president.
