TOKYO, July 14 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average edged up 0.3 percent after opening lower on Monday, with Fast Retailing Co Ltd (9983.T) offsetting falls of blue-chip exporters as investors remained cautious ahead of U.S. earnings and further government actions on troubled home financing providers.

Financials were mixed, with Japan's top lender Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (8306.T) almost flat.

As of 0005 GMT, the benchmark Nikkei .N225 was up 29.40 points at 13,069.09.

The broader Topix gained 0.1 percent to 1,286.70. (Reporting by Taiga Uranaka)
