Indonesian motorcycle sales rose 5.9 percent last year to
4.7 million units, recovering from a 12.76 percent drop in 2006
after the government more than doubled domestic fuel prices in
October 2005.
The move caused inflation to spike to around six-year highs
and prompted the central bank to hike interest rates.
Sales hit a record 5.07 million units in 2005 but dropped
to 4.43 million units in 2006. Analysts and industry experts
predict sales will top 5 million units this year.
